Fabio is a modern interpretation of an age old idea: obsession.
Throughout Fabio we watch a beautiful young man in intimate surrounds.
We hear the voice of the author and his admiration of his muse (quoting from the novella Death In Venice), whilst a swirling soundtrack of cellos and strings leads us deep into a dream-like hypnosis.
The camera becomes our eyes as we follow into the young man’s private inner space.
We discover multiple aspects of his character, from Adonis-like masculinity to dainty and delicate femininity.
Becoming entranced by the beauty of the boy and the sensual scenes of voyeurism, we are suddenly taken aback by the return of the young man’s gaze.
As viewers, we become implicated in the author’s obsession.
The spotlight turns towards us, as the different versions of our protagonist stare down the barrel of the lens, confronting our gaze and questioning the nature of desire.
“As artists our business is curiosity.
You do not choose the subject, the subject chooses you.
